Fundación Gonzalo Aponte was founded by the Aponte Family in 1972 as a platform
to give back to the most vulnerable communities of Puerto Rico.
Four family generations later, FGA continues to sponsor education, arts & culture, environmental action, and humanitarian efforts across the island—thanks to the funds raised at Mar de Sueños.

We created Mar de Sueños in response to the challenges in Puerto Rico brought on by Act 60.
At a time when much of the island’s available housing is being purchased by investors with profits flowing elsewhere, we saw an opportunity to do something different.
By reclaiming and remodeling a neglected property, we established Puerto Rico’s first ever Nonprofit Hospedería, where 100% of proceeds from donation-based bookings directly support Puerto Rican students, residents, and community organizations.
Mar de Sueños operates independently, without reliance on outside investors or platforms like Airbnb that support displacement and apartheid.
Mar de Sueños is fully owned and managed by Fundación Gonzalo Aponte, a registered non-profit organization in Puerto Rico.

Supporting Puerto Rican students, artists, and community organizations with every stay.
100% of proceeds from Mar de Sueños are donated as scholarships for native college students and grants for mission-driven entities across Puerto Rico, including:
